Durability of Repairs

EUROCODE 8 "Design Provisions for Earthquake Resistance of structures part 1-4: General rules - Strengthening and repair of buildings, Annex F. : Particular considerations for historical buildings and monuments":

"Durability. The intervention should be carried out using materials and techniques the durability of which has been demonstrated to be comparable to that of the other materials of the building. A less durable intervention is accepted if a periodic replacement is foreseen".

Consequently, whenever material different from the original ones are used, it is advisable to foresee, right from the designing stage, periodical controls and possible maintenance or replacements.
